With an eclectic style and a growing fan base, Winny (born Winifred Adanu) is rapidly emerging as a presence in the music industry. Despite having only released a handful of singles and an eponymous EP, this multi-genre artist has already amassed an impressive 14,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, solidifying her status as a rising star.
“I grew up listening to a lot of reggae music, R&B, and soul, and unconsciously it has shaped my style of music,” she says. Indeed, these influences are evident in Winny’s unique sound. Raised in a family of twelve, she credits their love and faith for nurturing her personal development and musical vision. Her songs, a captivating blend of infectious rhythms and compelling storytelling, immediately transports listeners into a reggae-infused journey.
In Take Me, a collaboration with Nigerian-American rapper Thutmose, the artist showcases her ability to create synergy with other artists. Reflecting on the experience, she notes “I would say the most memorable part of working with Thutmose was how we both aligned with the idea of the song—it was effortless.”
As a woman navigating the music industry, she knows about the challenges that lie ahead. However, she approaches these obstacles with a growth mindset, viewing them as opportunities for personal and professional development.
Since the release of her debut EP in 2023, Winny has undergone a remarkable transformation, both as a person and as a musician. A key lesson in her artistic journey has been the delicate balance between adaptability and authenticity. As she continues to carve her path in the music industry, she approaches her future work with palpable enthusiasm.
“I’m thrilled by the recognition and excited to keep pushing the boundaries of my music. I’m exploring new sounds and currently working on a project,” she says.
