Conversations about the viability of rap in Nigeria are never too far off. When YCee made an entrance two years ago, he was the best swag rapper Nigeria had heard in a second and while he’s still dominantly a rapper, his biggest record thus far, Juice featuring Maleek Berry has been successful more for its pop leanings. Fresh off his victory at the AFRIMAs, YCee is back to remind everyone that he’s first and foremost a hip hop act and one that’s here to stay with I WISH.
With lines like “the hip hop game’s been ignoring me, act like they don’t see what the boy’s been doing globally” he speaks to the widespread success of Juice and suggests it’s back to the rap for the fans who first hopped on his wave while coming for those who may not appreciate the moves he continues to make.
