Adekunle Gold’s Kelegbe Megbe is a combination of timeless African influences

Adekunle Gold made his way into the industry at a time when rappers like Da Grin and Olamide had challenged the status quo with nonconforming and delivery articulated in their native dialects. Though the industry was already saturated with these foreign yet local sounds, the folklore like aura that surrounded most of his releases back then weren’t exactly appealing but with time, he was able to hit it off and cultivate an unquantifiable following. It’s been more than 5 years and while his music still dances around his initial sound, it reflects a more versatile one such as the recently released Before You Wake Up. Adekunle Gold continues the streak this month with Kelegbe Megbe accompanied by a Clarence Peters directed video.

Being two music stalwarts in the industry, the duo of Adekunle Gold and Clarence Peters do not fail to impress with the found footage style captured video which is an avant garde representation of the narrative the former drives in the song.

Kelegbe Megbe is a compilation of something borrowed; the Fela Kuti originated jazz driven Afrobeat sound, something new, Adekunle Gold’s newly developed dynamic personality and an overload of psychedelic influences, all of which contribute to the wonderful mystery that is the song and video. Speaking on the record, Gold said

“When you know who you are, what you represent and are fully confident in yourself, you stop listening to opinions, trends and suggestions, good or bad because if you believe the good from a source, you better believe the bad from that same source, after all, human beings are fickle.

As much as I do this for the love of you, I also do it for the love of me. This is why I march to the beat of my own drum, I do things my own way, ‘I get my vibe” and ‘I get my vibe’. Kelegbe Megbe – Let everyone else know their level.”

Never one to rush things with hurried and choppy releases, Adekunle Gold clearly spent time perfecting his craft before dishing it out. Kelegbe Megbe is yet another proof of how dedicated he is.
