When the femme fatale fell off the surface of the Nigerian music scene months ago amidst the ongoing crisis in her record label, she left a big void no one could really fill despite an adoption of her style of music. This year, her hiatus came to an end when after an evolution that led to a name change – Madrina also brought about a track titled; Billion Dollar Woman.
Now months after her comeback single, Cynthia Morgan now Madrina is back with an inspirational record aptly titled Lion which finds her crooning in her usual sultry but gruff vocals tinged with Rastafarian inflections, motivating words and as her words roll out over a plane of quick drums and a spread of keys, her listener is inclined to rise above hate.
Madrina’s revolution might seem superficial but there are indications including a brand new self founded record label that hint at a deeper transformation and we’re looking forward to more offerings from the unique artiste.
