Iyanya juxtaposes artificial intelligence and its place in human relationships in his new video for Hold On. Set in 2023, it features Chenade Laroy as Mimi, struggling to understand her failed relationships. The video is clean cut and soothing to watch. Directed by Ogo Okpue, viewers are carried along with Mimi on her quest to find love.
In line with the title, Iyanya reminds Mimi (and consequently us), to remain patient as what is truly meant to be will come. And it did, with the eventual couple relocating to Calabar, happily married with kids.
Hold On, a track off Iyanya’s Signature EP is a beautiful song with an accompanying video that showcases a universal emotion in a different light and possesses storytelling which shows a readiness to take it beyond the norm of what Nigerian music videos typically look like.
