Nigerian fans have continued to troll neighbour, Ghana for our World Cup qualification and while many aren’t confident in our ability to go far, the boys put on an awe inspiring performance against Argentina.

Over the years, Argentina is a side we’ve faced a number of times most often ending in a loss. When tonight, the Eagles went two goals down following an Ever Banega freekick from about just outside the box in the 27th minute and a Sergio Aguero tap in less than 10 minutes later, it looked like even without Lionel Messi playing a role, a loss was impending.

Thankfully, Kelechi Iheneacho pulled one back before the break with a freekick of his own from about 20 yards out. Couple Sergio Aguero fainting which forced him to the hospital and tinkering from Rohr and the Eagles came out blazing in the second half. In the opening 10 minutes, the comeback was complete and the scoreline was in the Eagles’ favor following a well placed shot into the bottom corner from Arsenal winger, Alex Iwobi off Iheneacho’s assist.

Two minutes later, in the 54th, Iheaneacho was again in the mix as he laid the ball into the path of debutant and substitute Brian Idowu who buried the ball thanks to a deflection in Marchesin’s bottom left corner. In the 72nd minute, the Eagles completed the comeback victory as Iwobi put the ball through the legs of Javier Mascherano before deftly finishing over the keeper.

One friendly out of the way and definitely pleasing to see the Eagles perform so well.
