Duncan Mighty Credits 'Fake Love' For His 2018 Resurgence
The Duncan Mighty train came to town filled with highlife and soul inflected features and it almost seemed like a crime to not hop on it because who doesn’t want to partake of his sonorous and soulful offerings. Overflowing with carriages of indigenous lyricism and southern intonations, the port-harcourt native dispensed a piece of himself at each stop.
Although he had pitched his tent in the industry years ago, stopping occasionally to offload chart topping jams while retaining no solid spot, with singles like Obianuju and Port-Harcourt Boy, he had enough to leave to an unforgettable mark which he did. Not long after, the southern native switched off his sonic engine to pursue other causes leaving space for artistes like Timaya to shine.
Like a thief in the night, Duncan Mighty returned to the scene after taking time out to branch out to different business ventures. The impressionable mark he left was so deep that when he came back early this year he reclaimed his spot with added accolades seeing as what he brought to the table was much needed in the ever evolving Afrobeat landscape.
The Duncan Mighty renaissance began when Wizkid cashed in on an opportunity Tekno took in 2017 but didn’t invest in. This opportunity resulted in a solid contender for Nigerian Song Of The Year; Fake Love. At this point everyone just wanted a piece of Duncan Mighty and a piece each, they got.
While all of these features have been remarkable, some of the songs were really unimpressionable but they have taken nothing away from the magic Duncan Mighty performed this year. In 5 different tracks, the veteran Highlife artiste proved beyond doubt his return is indeed, an Afrobeat renaissance. These tracks are;
5. Gimme Love- DJ Xclusive ft. Duncan Mighty
This track is the quintessential Duncan Mighty feature and went under the radar. Not because Xclusive went out of his way to incorporate the elements that highlighted his artistry in the Nigerian music industry but because from beginning to end, we enjoyed the best of Duncan Mighty working Xclusive’s live strings and keys in a love themed track.

4. Bio Bio- Reekado Banks ft. Duncan Mighty
– Reekado Banks set his feature apart by slipping into the fast paced rhythm of traditional drums and melodic keys to enable a synergy with sonorous southern inflections and surprise samples that fused perfectly with his own love ballad.

3. Aza- DMW ft Davido, Duncan Mighty & Peruzzi
Like the go getter that he is, Davido made sure his Duncan Mighty offering was unique. While Nigerians struggled to come to terms with the vibe changing quality of this track, the DMW leader along with label mate; Peruzzi took us to the hometown of Duncan Mighty in the video for Aza, impressing us with sceneries of the rich culture that inspired his wonderful sound. In finally collaborating with Mighty, Davido was fulfilling an ambition he had expressed last year.

2. Lova Lova- Tiwa Savage feat. Duncan Mighty
At the point when Ms. Savage got on the highlife wave, Nigerians had become acquainted and reintroduced to Wene Mighty’s sound, however the similarity to his past and original sound made this feature much more better and unforgettable.

1. Fake Love- Starboy featuring Duncan Mighty
Could there be any other choice? While fans of the self dubbed Starboy were antsy with longing for new music, the bass led duet bordering on Highlife (powered by Mighty) and Afrobeat was the exact medicine for them and a wonderful surprise for fans of Duncan Mighty who had gone years without an offering from the highlife giant.
In a one of a kind renaissance ordered by Wizkid, Duncan Mighty has revolved around the Afrobeat sphere, alighting at certain stops to leave impressionable marks and overlooking certain ones such as his refusal to work with Yemi Alade, all at the same time inspiring the sort of creativity our music industry begs for. There have been rumors of coming features with D’Banj and L.A.X, there is an ongoing tour and he has teased a proper return to the industry. However he decides to capitalize on this wave will be much appreciated and is anticipated seeing as his reestablished presence in the industry is just what we need.
