Anyone that watches lots of Nollywood films knows pretty actors like Toni Tones are typecast. Before King of Boys, she had mostly played catty characters. In June, she played a spoilt bride-to-be who wants an over-the-top wedding ceremony. On 5th Floor, she played a vicious boss.
But Tones isn’t averse to typecasting. In the latest episode of Accelerate TV’s The Whole Truth, she says, “It is not a bad thing; it can be a good thing. Typecasting makes sure there is constant work.” The actress also mentioned that typecasting happens everywhere, “a lot of people don’t realize that a lot of actors even in Hollywood are typecast. Your favs are typecast—Tom Cruise, Denzel—and it’s actually normal.”
Tones also discussed her career-defining role as Young Eniola Salami on King of Boys, a film she almost didn’t act in. While her audition was great, she didn’t get the role she originally auditioned for (a constant issue for her then). But Kemi Adetiba took a gamble on her with Young Eniola, a more important role.
