The National Assembly election petition tribunal today ruled that the February 23rd elections in Kogi State which saw Dino Melaye reemerge as the Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District are now void. The decision to overrule the results and uphold the petition of APC’s Smart Adeyemi, was led by Justice A.O. Chijioke who led the three-man tribunal.
The decision to demand new elections in the district were borne from suggestions of irregularities over voting and non-compliance to the electoral act brought forward by Adeyemi’s legal team.
Dino Melaye denounced the decision calling the ruling a miscarriage of justice and it is expected that an appeal is coming.
Melaye has also recently expressed interest in competing to become the next governor in the state.
