Standing 6’ 0” with a 76” reach, Benin City born Kamarudeen Usman (29) is the welterweight contender and rising superstar making Nigeria proud in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The Nigerian mixed martial artist proved his alias as the Nigerian Nightmare at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, when he knocked out his opponent Sergio Moraes in a matter of minutes into their first round.
Dancing in to Olamide’s WO, clad with the Nigerian flag and his eccentric dance moves, Usman seemingly anticipated his victory from this bout to extend his welterweight win streak to six and lock down his first Octagon finish. He combined his athleticism with his masterful techniques (accurate and powerful headshots, calf kicks and swift movements) to come out with the victory.
“Naija no dey carry last. Get ready for me. I’m a problem”.
Brazilian Sergio Moraes was rather easily overpowered as Usman won with a masterful right hook that instantly dropped Moraes forcing him into a rather comical summersault, also forcing the referee to step in and declare a knockout stoppage.

The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) winner Kamaru Usman entered this fight with a professional record of 10-1-0 (60% finishing rate) and he is ranked as the No.20 welterweight in the world. He suffered his only loss when he faced Jose Caceres at his second professional MMA fight in 2013, since then he has collected nine consecutive victories beating Warlley Alves and Sean Strickland in his last two fights. His opponent, the black belt Sergio Moraes, has an MMA record of 12-2-1 (67% finishing rate) and he entered as the No.45 in the same weight class. The fight brought for Usman a chance to add a knockout stoppage to his record, something he’s come close to but never quite achieved in UFC. This opportunity presented itself and he sure enough took it.
Usman is certainly going places in the UFC as he constantly surpasses his previous display. Nigeria is solidly behind him on this endeavor.
