10 things you should know about WurlD

As famous for his blue-coloured hair as he is for the velvety texture of his songs, WurlD is a man born to stand out, the distinctiveness of his music and stardust that he possesses means that he is one person not to be ignored. Last week, at the 13th Headies, he won in the Best Male Vocal Performance category and as he further pushes his signature electro-fusion music forward, we gathered 10 things to know about him.

  1. He was born Sadiq Onifade and grew up in Lagos.
  2. WurlD is a Nigerian-American singer, songwriter, and record producer.
  3. In 2000, WurlD moved to Atlanta, Georgia for secondary school education and fell in love with music and songwriting. He later got a university degree from Georgia State University.
  4. His first single Beyond Our Dreams was released in 2012.
  5. WurlD released his first EP, Evolution, in 2013.
  6. He co-wrote Davido’s 2019 hit single Blow My Mind featuring Chris Brown. He has also written songs for RnB star, Mario, and worked with rapper and producer Timberland.
  7. His second EP Love is Contagious was released in March 2019.
  8. WurlD’s Love is Contagious EP has nine tracks and features hit single ‘Show You Off’ produced by Nigerian producer Shizzi featuring Major Lazer’s Walshy Fire.
  9. His style of music is an eclectic mix of EDM, soul, pop, and RnB.
  10. His track Wishes & Butterflies won him an award for ‘Best Vocal Performance’ (Male) at the 2019 Headies Awards.
