Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari was present at the Armed forces remembrance day celebrations that held in Abuja on Saturday, January 15th 2017.
He congratulated Nigeria’s armed forces and praised them for their self-less service to the nation. He also spoke to troops in Sambisa forest and those on peace-keeping missions in Liberia via video call. Senate president, Bukola Saraki and speaker of the house, Yakubu Dogara, were also present at the event.
Wife of the president, Aisha Buhari also sent a congratulatory message to the troops through her social media page on Sunday.
She expressed optimism that the time had come when Nigeria would be free from terrorism.
In her words;
As we remember our fallen heroes today, I pray for those they left behind; our heroes will never be forgotten. Their labours and sacrifices will not be in vain.I pray that the time has come when there will be zero terrorism and insurgency in our land. To our gallant troops who had fought and still fighting to restore peace, I say thank you.
