The S16 Film Festival, an annual event dedicated to showcasing independent cinema in Nigeria, is set to return for its fourth edition from 10 to 13 December 2024 at Alliance Française, Ikoyi, Lagos. Known for spotlighting bold storytelling and diverse voices, this year’s festival offers an exciting showcase of homegrown talent alongside internationally acclaimed films, celebrating the creativity and resilience of Nigerian and African filmmakers while connecting them to the global stage.
With the theme “Technologic” the 2024 festival highlights how digital innovation is transforming filmmaking and storytelling. From locally rooted narratives to international masterpieces, attendees can look forward to a curated programme featuring 13 Short Films, 6 Feature Films, and 1 Private Viewing, as well as thought-provoking panel discussions and workshops designed to inspire and educate.
The 2024 S16 Film Festival presents a dynamic selection of films, including On Becoming a Guinea Fowl by Rungano Nyoni (A24), a globally acclaimed masterpiece exploring identity and resilience. Hanami, the visually stunning debut by Denise Fernandes, highlights the talent of Locarno Film Festival’s Best Emerging Director. A remastered screening of Mathieu Kassovitz’s Cannes-winning classic La Haine offers a powerful retrospective on social justice. Nigerian filmmaker CJ Obasi brings a refreshed edit of his award-winning crime thriller O-Town, while Abba Makama’s bold documentary The Kids Are Okay shines a spotlight on Lagos’ vibrant youth counterculture.
