Headlining a show is one of the goals every musician hopes to achieve, it is a validation of the dedication put into the craft and the tenacity the artists embody. There’s a hierarchy of are exclusive venues that have upheld the mantle of giving artists a global platform to be celebrated, and one of them is the o2 Arena. With an indoor capacity of 20,000 people, the prestigious stage of the o2 has witnessed performances by Prince, Celine Dion, and Prince, as well as a couple of notable Nigerians.
Here is a list of Nigerian artists who have headlined the o2:
Wizkid
The o2 Arena was headlined by a Nigerian for the first time on the 26th of May 2018 by Wizkid, who sold out the venue. The AfroRepublik concert held performances by artists Maleek Berry, Yxng Bane, Kojo Funds, Mr Eazi, Giggs, Tekno, Not3s, and Tiwa Savage.
Davido
Davido became the second Nigerian artist to sell out the o2 Arena on the 27th of January 2019. He made the announcement shortly before the show began.
He was introduced on stage by Idris Elba who was at the show with fellow UK big names Naomi Campbell and Tim Westwood. Other performances of the night came from; Mayorkun, Peruzzi, Dremo, Idowest, and Yonda, Zlatan and Victor AD.
Burna Boy
Having sold out the famous Brixton Academy in 2019, it is no surprise his next global performance is at the o2 Arena. Coming right after winning a Grammy for being the Best International Artist, the Afrofusion star is set to hold his first-ever headline show on August 27th, 2021.
His Twice As Tall event is one of The Welcome Back Show series being held to celebrate society’s return to normalcy after the pandemic.
