Last week, the introductory episode of our new podcast –
The 4th Republic went back in time to take a look at the 1999 elections that put President Olusegun Obasanjo in Aso Rock and made him the first Nigerian to rule in both military and democratic dispensations.
We pick up from there in the second episode with the 2003 elections which marked the first time Nigerians were able to hold a referendum on a leader’s performance. During this bid for power, President Obasanjo is challenged by General Muhammadu Buhari in the first of five bids for the highest office in the land.
Join us on Thursday, the 20th of January as we conduct a deep dive into these elections and the state of play via Twitter Spaces @takingCustody by 7 pm.
Every week, the 4th Republic digs into the elections that have taken place in Nigeria’s 4th Republic in an attempt to understand their wider significance since the 1999 return to democracy.
