Let's put our money and time where our mouths have been
Last week, two young Nigerian women lost their lives at the hands of violence. One case was 16-year-old Tina Ezekwe who was a victim of police brutality, the other was 22-year-old Uwaila Omozuwa who was sexually assaulted and murdered in Edo State. These two cases are a reminder of two of the biggest issues Nigerians face today, police brutality and sexual violence against women. It is important at times like these that we denounce these acts and commit everything we can to fight for those most susceptible to these forms of violence every day. Below are a list of organizations you can financially donate to who are working to fight against sexual violence against women in Nigeria. You can also dedicate your time by volunteering at these organizations if you’re in a better position to do so than support financially.
If you know of any organizations dedicated to working against police brutality, please send us a message on Twitter or via email, so we can include them.
We have identified three organizations working directly on the Uwa Omozuwa case in Edo.
A group of Edo based NGOs including the Association Against Child Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, Caring Heart Initiative for Advocacy, Development and Empowerment and the Brave Heart Initiative for Youth and Women has collaborated to facilitate justice for Uwa and raise community consciousness in Edo State.
