Tomi Thomas is the industry’s newest darling by way of his modern representation of sound artistry, one represented in his perfect embodiment of Afro-fusion, a combination of two popular genres: Afrobeats and Dancehall, that give credence to this growth. Riding the high generated by the release of his latest EP, Hopeless Romantic, a six-track EP that resonated with industry heavyweights and caught the media’s attention with international press coverage, he returns this week with the video for the hotly tipped Buju Banton assisted Hurricane.
Hurricane begins with a booming Banton at the intro and a powerful beat highlighting Thomas’s vocal range. The Dalia Dias-directed music video starts in pretty much the same manner, with a storm unleashed at the epicenter of the two singers. The video is ripe with nature’s fury, complete with powerful rains and tumultuous winds swirling about.
According to Tomi Thomas, “the music from within will always transcend time and space…” this video is an encapsulation of his range going beyond the dimensions defined as the norm.
