Ake Festival in Pictures

What?

The Ake Arts and Book Festival – the premier book literary festival this part of the world. The festival features master classes and workshops in various aspects of performance art, visual art, drama, fashion, music, film, dance and writing. The theme for the 2018 edition was Fantastical Futures.

This year’s edition was opened by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and inspired the very cringe Twitter thread.

When I was 10 years old, there was a girl in my class who I was quite certain at the time that I could give my life. So I wrote her a lovely poem over a weekend; I wrote the poem on Friday and finished it on Saturday. And it was, if I may say so myself, a work of sheer genius.

Stand out Moment 

Ms. Shoneyin’s The Secret Lives of Baba’s Segi Wives which has been showing in London finally made its home debut. The play which will be showing in the next couple of weeks was brought to life retaining the essence and flavor that make it one of the more memorable pieces of Nigerian literary anthopology. You should definitely get tickets.
