YBNL and EMPIRE signee, Ahmed Ololade Asake, popularly known as Asake, has released his first single of the year 2023 titled Yoga. The singer who has one of the greatest runs of a new artist in the Nigerian music industry shared the single along with a vibrant music video which depicts a deep and spirited message that is expertly interwoven into the song, and is sung primarily in Yoruba.
According to Asake, the song is about peace and zen. “The song is about minding my business and guarding my peace so no one can disrupt it,” Asake says. In Yoga, Asake uses his signature sonic blend of Fuji music, merged with spiritual affirmations. Following somewhat of a radio silence, Asake took to his social media in the early hours of January 30th, 2023, to share a snippet of the new record with his audience. The snippet was accompanied with the promise of another TG Omori directed video which got fans excited.
The music video, which saw Asake and reality TV figure Alexis Skyy explore Dakar, Senegal, boasts of colourful and vibrant imagery. Following his debut album Mr. Money With The Vibe, Asake set the tone for a streak of musical success. He featured on Tiwa Savage’s Loaded which was a part of EMPIRE’s Where We Come From (Vol. 1) compilation album and it seems like the holidays are over thanks to Yoga. Yoga, which was produced by Magicsticks, is a visual continuation of that search for much-needed tranquility.
This isn’t the first time Asake’s spiritual journey has been the centre of his art or even a post featured on his social media profiles. On New Year’s Eve, he wrote on Twitter, “Too many ups and downs, trials, and tribulations, but God is forever the greatest. Thanks to everyone who made 2022 awesome for me, Words can’t explain. May God bless 2023 for us. Blessings and Glory.”
