If you are a huge fan of movie musicals, and enjoyed watching Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in acclaimed musical, La La Land, we are thrilled to tell you, black people finally get our own La La Land!

Last year, it was reported Netflix had acquired rights to ‘Been So Long‘, a feature-length musical starring Michaela Coel and Nigerian-british artist on the rise, Arinzé Kene.

Michaela Coel is an award-winning actress best known for her role in the hilarious Chewing Gum and for her stellar performance in british sci-fi Black Mirror in the episode “U.S.S. Callister.”.

While Arinze Kene is an underrated and underexposed actor of his caliber in both theatre and screen, his talent to successfully bring a character to life is undeniable and unarguable as we have seen him do as Connor in EastEnders.

Directed by BAFTA-winning filmmaker, Tinge Krishnan, Been So Long will follow a dedicated single mother (played by Coel) who, on an unusual night on the town, is charmed by a handsome yet troubled stranger (played by Kene).

The musical’s soundtrack has been described as “a diverse mix of r&b, soul, dance and cinematic orchestra”. Although no official teaser or trailer has been released, best believe we’ll be posted up on Netflix watching this when it comes out on October 26!

Check out the synopsis from Netflix below:

Romance, rage and revenge. ‘Been So Long’ is a neon soaked, modern day romance set on the streets of London’s musical hot-bed of Camden. We follow Simone(Michaela Coel), a dedicated single mother who, on a rare night on the town is charmed by a handsome yet troubled stranger, Raymond (Arinzé Kene), igniting old and new feelings. Set against the backdrop of an ever-changing city, ‘Been So Long’ is a fresh take on love, life and moving on.
