Bolanle Austen Peters’ historical film House of Ga’a will premiere on Netflix on July 26th. Set in 18th century Oyo Empire, the period film delves into the rise and fall of Bashorun Ga’a, a ruthless legendary kingmaker and prime minister whose mischief and diabolical reign are undone by his own blood.
The cast of the film includes Femi Branch, Funke Akindele, Bimbo Manuel, Mike Afolarin, Muyiwa Ademola, Lateef Adedimeji, Toying Abraham, Gabriel Afolayan, Ibrahim Chatta, Dele Odule, Yemi Blaq, William Benson, Adeniyi Johnson, Femi Adebayo, Kunle Coker, Jide Oyegbile and Gbenga Titilope.
House of Ga’a is directed by Bolanle Austen-Peters who also co-produces with Joseph Umoibom, while the script is written by Tunde Babalola. The trio previously collaborated on Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, a biopic which won Best Writing at the 2024 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards and debuted on Prime Video on June 21st following a run in the Nigerian box office.
Austen-Peters’ film company, BAP Productions, is responsible for an array of theatre and video productions. Some of the stage plays credited to the company are Saro The Musical, Fela and The Kalakuta Queens, Moremi The Musical and Death and the King’s Horseman. Her filmography includes 93 Days, Bling Lagosians, Collision Course and Man of God.
