Buhari and Obasanjo

As the polity heats up in anticipation of next year’s general elections, the battle of words between the President and his media aides and perceived opponents has been at the forefront of the political discourse. One of the key battles to emerge has seen past President Obasanjo increasingly criticize the Buhari administration culminating in a publicly released letter which captured his displeasure with Buhari. Whilst Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed took it upon himself to contradict the former President, it was glaring that no one from the President’s inner chamber did same.

Speaking to a Buhari campaign group, President Buhari disclosed that his media spokesman, Femi Adesina was talked down from responding to Obasanjo on the basis that he was younger than the Ota based leader and also came from the same constituency. He further joked that Mohammed’s response was against his instruction.
