In what appears to be a shoot out on Wednesday 28, February,2024, Chadian opposition leader and member of the Socialist Party without Borders, Yaya Dillo has been killed at the party headquarters by security forces. The sad incident occurred a day after Dillo was accused of leading the attack on the National Security Agency (ANSE). The late politician denied the accusations, offering that they were tactics to intimidate him.
Yaya Dillo was set to run in Chad’s election against the current transitional president, Mahamat Deby on May 6th 2024. The election date was only announced on Tuesday 27, February, nearly three years after Mahamat Deby assumed power as the military leader of Chad after his father, President Idriss Deby, was killed by the rebel group Front for Change and Concord in Chad.
Accounts of the incident differ between the government and the opposition party. The former has stated that the security agency was attacked by the representatives of the party, while the latter has maintained that the soldiers opened fire at the party members, resulting in multiple deaths.
