Chimamanda Adichie has slowly become one of the leading voices for women and Africans in the West. On June 6th, she was recognised with the Mary McCarthy award for her role as a public figure and remarkable author by New York liberal arts institution, Bard College.
The award which is in honour of late Mary McCarthy, a former Bard College faculty member and is the third honor Adichie has bagged from US institutions after she was decorated with honorary degrees from Williams College and Haverford College.
Adichie joins the likes of Zadie Smith, Mona Simpson, and Susan Sontag on the list of winners of the award which comes with a cash prize and standard royalty contract.
