African cinema gets another feather in its cap as Circuits, an international subscription-based video-on-demand streaming platform launches this December with the best of content for the holiday season. Tailored to meet Afrocentric film needs while catering to a global audience, the platform will join the list of African-owned streamers such as Showmax, IrokoTV and IbakaTV and international giants such Netflix and Prime Video patronized by audiences on the continent and elsewhere.
Ahead of its launch, the platform has recruited Chioma Onyenwe, producer of I Do Not Come To You By Chance, as Vice President with the hope of maintaining a prime position among its competitors in the streaming market. Circuits is created to deliver high-quality African films, including new releases and blockbusters—available to all internet-enabled devices. This guarantees an excellent slate of films from some of the most celebrated African filmmakers.
The platform will offer exclusive content, big-screen quality replicating the theatrical experience at home, high-end security in the form of digital rights management to protect creators’ intellectual property, and effortless multi-device compatibility.
The mission of Circuits, Onyenwe claimed, is to recognize and applaud the exceptional talent of Afrucan filmmakers while cultivating a creative economy that is dynamic, sustainable and globally appealing. To achieve this, the platform is joining hands with African producers to license a diverse range of contents.
Onyenwe maintained that Circuits signifies a “paradigm shift” in how African cinema is distributed to international audiences. “By leveraging the wealth of talent and creativity within Africa, we’re building a resilient bridge between the continent’s vibrant film industry and global audiences who cherish our stories and films,” she said.
Setting out this December on an impressive note, the platform will deliver monthly premieres of 5–10 carefully curated, unreleased films and blockbusters, providing a 12-week viewing window for each. Cinephiles can visit https://circuits.tv to join the waiting list for early-bird pricing. Early subscribers will have access to discounts on premium contents.
Be prepared for a thrilling, visually stimulating cinematic adventure that takes you across the African landscape and exposes you to the beauty of African storytelling while making the Yuletide season a memorable one for you.
