Popular Nigerian web series screenwriter, Dami Elebe has been enlisted for Netflix’s first original Nigerian series. With an outstanding few national favorites under her belt like Skinny Girl in Transit, Rumor Has It and rave of the moment, The Men’s Club, Elebe’s latest undertaking is a major win for her and the many screen buffs who have watched her hone her talent from year to year on each series project.
“Netflix is proud to continue to invest in more original content from Nigeria.”- Dorothy Ghettuba, African Originals Lead, Netflix.
Netflix on Monday announced the new Nigerian original series as well as three new films scheduled to premiere on the global platform.
“The new series and films, which are at different stages of production while others are ready to premiere, will join the growing slate of Nigerian content on the service and debut to 193 million members in 190 countries around the world,” they said in a statement.
Created and produced by Inkblot Productions, the story centers on Ishaya, “a charismatic teenager and talented artist from a poor family, whose dreams suddenly appear within reach when a prestigious scholarship to the most exclusive school in the country catapults him into the luxurious world of Nigeria’s 1% – all while a huge secret threatens his newfound status and, ultimately, his family’s safety.”
Created by Chinaza Onuzo the Executive Producer and with Dami Elebe as Head Writer, the six-episode series will be directed by Onuzo, Tope Oshin and Niyi Akinmolayan. With more casting details in the works, Funke Akindele has been announced as one of the lead characters in the forthcoming project.
As expected, the news called for a fitting viral trend in typical Elebe fashion. We are earnestly waiting for more news on the big drop.
Let me look for space to add new stuff to bio.
