Fans and critics have hailed Davido’s fourth studio album Timeless . The album has set some records since its release on March 31, becoming the album with the all-time most first-day streams on Spotify Nigeria and Boomplay. With this album Davido has largely reintroduced himself to a music industry he withdrew from last October, a hiatus prompted by the death of his three-year-old son. He continues his Welcome Back party in the newly released music video of Unavailable. In fact, he’s obvious about it. In the video a helicopter carries a windswept banner with the message, “Welcome Back Davido.”
Produced by Magicsticks and featuring Musa Keys, Unavailable is Timeless‘s fifth track. With its thumping Amapiano drums and overall anthemic feel, the song has been one of the standouts in the 17-track album. In the song, Davido sings that he is “unavailable” for anything that doesn’t involve money or pleasure. This music video directed by Dammy Twitch seems to pay literal tribute to that idea.
Twitch chooses for the video’s setting a place where Davido truly would be unavailable, the absence of cell towers in the remote forest meaning the singer can scarcely get a network to place a call or read his emails if he wanted to.
In the barely populated veld where the video is set, the modern meets the age-old. There are backup dancers clad in the get-up of today, and there are villagers dressed in the old-time fashion of a South African tribe, the latter seemingly a homage to Musa Keys, who is South African. And then there is Davido in the middle of it all, dancing, smiling, and thoroughly enjoying his homecoming party.
Dammy Twitch has previously directed music videos for Davido. He is behind the videos of The Best, Jowo and FEM. He also directed the videos of Omah Lay’s Godly, Falz’s One Trouser and Mayorkun’s Geng.
