Enaky Is The Artist Seeking Support for Women

As more female songbirds continue to soar within the African music scene, it is clear that there are seemingly glaring biases in documenting these sonical heroines. It is why the contributions of people like Edna Ogholi, Lijadu Sisters, and Sandra Izsadore, among others, are given less prominence in the history books of Afrobeats relative to their male counterparts. Joining hands with her industry mates to safeguard the heritages of these women, talented Bayelsa singer Enaye Igoniwari, professionally known as Enaky, has called on the media to better spotlight women in the Afrobeats music space.

“Well, I feel like there should be more spotlight given to women in the mainstream media. If we look around, there’s just so much opportunity for one to not explore their talent,” she shared in a chat with Culture Custodian. Owing her musical influences to “strong black women” like Erykah Badu, and Whitney Houston, among others, she hopes for “more women to live that beautiful, talented, fierce, strong and high-spirited life.”

Signed to NSB Entertainment, the young singer has been on a roll since her debut single dubbed, Family dropped. She recently performed on the same stage with notable artists such as Major AJ, Sgawd, and SOLIS, among others, at the recent Jameson Distillery On Tour ‘Summer Cookout’ concert. Since she began her musical sojourn, from her teenagehood, where she wrote poetry and aspired to join her church choir, to date, Enaky has been on a spree to leave hearts stirring to her sound.
