End of Year Review: Movie of the Year

Posted on

Oluwamayowa Idowu: Due to the fact that I didn’t see that many movies this year, I’m going to go for the left field choice of The Armstrong Lie. Alex Gibney’s investigation of Lance Armstrong and the toxic space that is the cycling circuit reinforces why he’s one of the all time great documentarians.

Aisha Modibbo: I haven’t watched a lot of movies this year. I liked Chef because of all the sexy images of food.

Temitayo Ayorinde: Guardians of the Galaxy. Duh.

Amaka Onyemenam: – Not been a movie person lately. I prefer shows with a plot that keeps me interested.

But I watched The Butler (2013) this year on a plane. It made me cry a bit. It’s easy to dissociate ourselves from slavery and the past, without learning any lessons on compassion for our fellow man. We now manage to dehumanise one another- on and offline. Each time I remember the movie, it shocks me to think that human beings were treated so, because of the colour of their skin. Life can be cruel to the least deserving.

Demola Fashola: Let it Go! Let it Go! Frozen is amazing!!!
