October 20, 2020, is a day that will never be forgotten in Nigeria’s history as what began as a peaceful protest at the Lekki toll gate turned into a massacre once military gunmen opened fire on peaceful protesters.

In honour of the lost lives, Nigerian filmmaker, Jamila Dankaro has released a 2D animated short film called The Days to Follow.

Written and directed by Dankaro, the short film tells the story of two sisters whose lives are permanently changed after attending the EndSars protests.

Sharing the inspiration for the project, the filmmaker said: “All over the world, we (Black people) are arguing the validity of their voice and with this pain in mind, I wanted to create something to honour the families who lost their loved ones. I wanted to create something for my people.”

The Days to Follow, which is produced by Black Girl Heard productions, premiered on October 20, the first anniversary of the Lekki Toll Gate massacre.
