Rising star, Fazil, has released his debut self-titled EP, a compelling exploration of his personal and artistic journey. The EP houses seven carefully crafted tracks that guides listeners through the emotional highs and lows of his life, dreams, and struggles. It offers an intimate glimpse into Fazil’s vulnerabilities and aspirations, revealing the artist behind the music. It’s a candid reflection of his ambition to create hit records and achieve success, while recognizing that there’s much more to life beyond fame.
Preceded by the breakthrough single Salam, which dropped on October 18th and has already amassed over 200,000 streams, the project is quickly gaining attention. Salam is a deeply reflective track where Fazil engages in a conversation with God, seeking peace and guidance to navigate life’s challenges. It serves as a reminder of the importance of inner peace in turbulent times.
The EP’s opening track, Give Me Ginger, sets a heartfelt tone for the whole project. Sampling the legendary Three Wisemen’s song Bastard, Fazil touches on his religious faith, his emotional nature, and his challenging upbringing.
Tracks like Soldier, Palava, and Last Card delve into the tough realities of pursuing a career in the music industry. They explore the uncertainty of creating music without knowing its reception and the pressures of making music a viable path. Last Card stands out as a raw declaration, a final push to succeed. Fazil acknowledges the need to be more strategic and calculated, while committing to give everything he has for both personal fulfillment and for the boy who once had nothing but his talent.
On Otherside, Fazil shows his versatility, experimenting with a funk-inspired vibe that expands beyond his usual style, highlighting his creative range. The EP concludes with Raba, a prayerful outro where Fazil humbly asks for patience—from God and his fans. He reflects on the universal pursuit of success, but also recognizes that the journey is just as important as the destination.
This debut EP is a powerful statement of Fazil’s evolving artistry. Produced by Ikon Ekwuyasi and Ojewumi Babajide, it marks the beginning of an exciting journey for an artist committed to rising—not just for fame, but to honor his story and the gift he carries.
