Fecent Ricco Is On A Mission To Acquaint The World With His Afrocalm Vibes

The Nigerian music industry is well on its way to playing host to a majority of its artists fronting original sounds and opting to not play to the gallery. Since the early 2010s, an uprising powered by people with passion and purpose from every corner of the country has been brewing and these days, their confidence is even more. This shift is also characterized by Lagos gradually but surely losing its place as the hub of entertainment and while this has given room to more artists to blossom, it is a direct result of their work ethic. Ogun state-bred Fecent Ricco has all the makings of a rising and eventual superstar and he stands solidly amid non-Lagos artists driving the shift from conventional to unconventional, with his array of highly personified and original songs most of which can be found on his last release, a five-track EP titled Afrocalm Vibes Vol.1.

There are honor and profit in honing your own sound as an artist and not pandering to the norm, Ricco has keyed into this. An effect of the innateness of music to him which has materialized in the many caps he wears: Producer, Singer, Songwriter and Entertainer and the molding of his persona, characterized by his appreciation for music greats including Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Chronixx, Christopher Martins, and Bob Marley, Ricco’s reaction to his passion is a unique style called ‘Afrocalm Vibes’ inspired by a fusion of Afrobeat, Highlife and Afro-soul. Also notable in this niche he has carved for himself is his penchant for resonant narratives. Ricco claims he has always had the drive to use his music to teach, empower and motivate his listeners by gunning for relatability with stories about life experiences punctuated with tidbits of knowledge and articulated in his colorful vocabulary.

While the fusion of these qualities screams originality, it also means he has two things to bank on, in an industry where sound trumps meaning to some and vice versa in other communities. This is a win for Ricco and one reason we think his debut album heralded by the soon-to-be-released video for Afrocalm Vibes Vol.1 standout, I Go Use Am Well, should be on everyone’s radar.

Fecent Ricco has hinted at more interesting subjects to touch on as he introduces us to more of his inventive compositions on his debut album slated for a mid-2021 release. In the meantime, he wants everyone to acquaint themselves with his sound and energy by listening to the previously released Afrocalm Vibes Vol.1 and watching the video for I Go Use Am Well.
