Renowned Nigerian filmmaker Funke Akindele, most recently remembered as producer-director of top two highest-grossing Nollywood films of all time Battle On Buka Street and Omo Ghetto: The Saga, has returned to the spotlight in a five-part drama series She Must Be Obeyed.
Produced by Akindele’s Scene One Entertainment, the limited series stars Funke Akindele in the lead role of SHE–Siyanbola Adewale, Abdulateef Adedimeji, Rachael Okonkwo, Nancy Isime, Mike Ezuronye, Akah Anani, Waje and Veeiye.
In addition to the aforementioned movie stars cast, Nigerian music act Waje and Big Brother Naija star Veeiye will appear in the series.
A captivating story based on the world of stardom and secrets, She Must Be Obeyed dives into the affairs of three flourishing music artists whose lives are ruled by bitter rivalries and envy as they indulge in backstabbing so as to outshine one another and protect their career interests.
Funke Akindele has always been celebrated as an actress and producer since she came to limelight after starring in the sitcom series I Need To Know. Her position in the industry rose higher following her role in the 2008 film Jenifa which won her the 2009 Africa Movie Academy Award (AMAA) for Best Actress in a Leading Role. Her character as “Jenifa” was reprised in a 2015 television sitcom series, Jenifa’s Diary which earned her Best Actress in a Comedy at the 2016 and 2017 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA).
Since crossing over from the modest Yoruba cinema to big-budget Nollywood productions, Funke Akindele has made her mark as one of the formidable filmmakers in New Nollywood. She made her directorial debut in the 2019 political drama film Your Excellency, and she has been responsible as producer, director or both on Industreet (2017), Omo Ghetto (2010), Omo Ghetto: The Saga (2020) and recently Battle On Buka Street (2022). Recognized as the most nominated filmmaker at the AMVCA and most decorated AMVCA actress, as well as the second most successful director at the Box Office, Funke Akindele’s cinematic legacy cannot be undermined.
She Must Be Obeyed is set to appear from 29th September, 2023 exclusively on Prime Video.
