Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has disclosed the cast of her anticipated project, Finding Me. Through short, transition videos posted on social media from May 14, 2024, to May 28, 2024, the filmmaker gradually revealed the star-studded cast in her latest project whose release is expected soon this year.
The cast list includes Femi Adebayo, Dakore Egbuson-Akande, Joseph Benjamin, Omowunmi Dada, Omoni Oboli, Shaffy Bello, Dele Odule, Efa Iwara, Abdulgafar Abiola (Cute Abiola), Tina Mba, Emeka Nwagbaraocha, Sharon Ooja, Calabar Chic and Ariyo Oluwakemisola Apesin.
The anticipated film is from the stable of Funke Ayotunde Akindele Network (FAAN), a production company owned by Funke Akindele and responsible for the release of the commercially successful blockbusters, Battle On Buka Street and A Tribe Called Judah.
News of Finding Me is coming months after Akindele announced a new installment of the Jenifa franchise, Everybody Loves Jenifa, which will premiere in December 2024.
Akindele is one of Nollywood’s most successful and accomplished filmmaker, having risen to fame when she first played the titular character in Muhydeen S. Ayinde’s 2008 feature film, Jenifa. Since then, the Jenifa franchise has become popular, leading to the release of a sequel, The Return of Jenifa, in 2011 and a television series, Jenifa’s Diary, in 2014 as well as spinoffs, Aiyetoro Town and Jenifa On Lockdown.
Akindele is also responsible for the top three highest-grossing films in the Nigerian box office: A Tribe Called Judah which amassed over a billion naira in domestic box office revenue, Battle On Buka Street (₦668 million) and Omo Ghetto: The Saga (₦636 million).
Akindele boasts five wins at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), making her the the most awarded actress of the platform. This includes an award as AMVCA Best Actress In A Comedy in 2022 for her performance in Omo Ghetto: The Saga.
