Ghanaian afro-fusion artist, Gyakie recently collaborated with North London’s rapper JBEE on a new single titled Scar. The singer debuted with her single Love is Pretty in 2019 and has since then worked with artists like AKA, Diplo, Blaq Jerzee, Major League DJz, and featured Ckay on the remix of her breakout single Foreverwhich gained international recognition and has amassed over 150m streams across platforms. On this new single, Gyakie enlists the fresh style of JBEE, a British rapper paving a lane of his own. He holds a 2022 MOBO nomination for Best Newcomer and his hit track  4AM gained over 77 million streams in 2021.

Scar is steeped in a blend of Gyakie’s R&B sound and JBEE’s flow over a quick and precise Sosa-crafted drill beat. The song explores themes of heartbreak and the scars gotten from failed relationships as Gyakie’s and JBEE’s chemistry on the song creates a back-and-forth, that tracks the emotions they both suffer. While Gyakie sings about her scars, JBEE expresses his doubts over the sincerity of her love and the mistakes he made. The duo’s chemistry is expanded in the accompanying music video, directed by Craig Capone, where the tension heard in the song takes another dimension. The artists are seen to be on opposite sides, having a face-off while baring feelings and disappointment, before reconciling and locked in an embrace towards the end.

Gyakie shares that “Working with JBEE brought a different dimension to Scar, for me this was such a great experience to bring our two sounds together to create a deep, yet catchy single that is relatable to audiences across the continents”.

Speaking on the release JBEE says “I was in Ghana for New Year, even though it was the holiday season when Gyakie calls, you answer! We linked up in Ghana and ‘Scar’ was born. Even though I am London born and raised, I’m Ghanaian myself and I’m so happy we got to collaborate and make this track. I hope the fans love this one seeing two worlds collide!”

The collaborative track provides heart-wrenching insight into contemporary relationships laced with an authenticity that is sure to resonate with music fans across continents.
