Acclaimed Ghanaian songstress Gyakie announces the release of her highly anticipated debut album, After Midnight. The album is set to be a profound sonic exploration born from the stillness and creative clarity that emerges when the world goes quiet.
“Almost all the songs on the album were recorded after midnight,” Gyakie says, speaking on the essence of the album. “It’s within those hours that I find my best inspiration to write. The peace and quiet, the sounds from the birds, the serenity—everything about that time fuels my creativity.”
After Midnight is more than just a collection of songs; it serves as an intimate window into Gyakie’s emotional landscape and personal history. The album’s conceptual framework draws from cherished childhood memories, including her mother’s midnight prayers, a ritual that continues whenever the family reunites.
“I’ve done a lot of crying after midnight too,” she confides. “When I’m in my down moments, I schedule my tears for when I get home from work, then I let it all out.”
Following her breakthrough EP, Seed (2021), which spawned the chart-topping Forever, and the more introspective My Diary (2022) featuring a collaboration with Davido, After Midnight marks Gyakie’s evolution from promising talent to a definitive voice in contemporary African music.
The artist was recently featured as a speaker at Forbes Summit 2025, where she discussed her artistic journey and commitment to Afro-fusion, blending elements of hip-hop, drill, R&B, and traditional sounds. She reminded the audience of her versatility, which has established her as a musical innovator reshaping African music’s global narrative.
After Midnight is designed as an immersive experience best enjoyed at 12:01 AM, when emotions run deepest and the world feels suspended in possibility. The album invites listeners into a space where raw vulnerability, nostalgia, and introspection converge, promising Gyakie’s most heartfelt work to date.
