The Ibadan Indie Film Awards(IFÁ) has announced the official screening selection for its first open mic film screening for the year. Scheduled to hold, on March 15, 2025, at the New Culture Studio, Oremeji, Ibadan.
Established in 2022, IFÁ was created to recognize and reward the excellence of young independent Nigerian filmmakers creating from anywhere around the globe. The IFÁ Awards happen every November in the ancient city of Ibadan, Nigeria. And the monthly open mic screening is one of the flagship events of IFÁ to further its spotlight of Nigerian independent filmmakers whilst also building a growing and committed community in Ibadan and across Nigeria. Nigerian director, Moses Ipadeola, credited with Ekun Iyawo: Fate of a Runaway Bride, Fate, Ifa Therapy and other IFÁ’s director.
The open mic screening selections line up includes Shedrack Salami’s Beyond Olympic Glory, Celestine Aleobua’s Tina, When Will You Marry?, Reginald Jumbo’s Interrogation of Lotanna, Atitola Omotehinse’s Penrose, Testimony Odeh’s Dust, Oladele Bello’s Well Whirl-Wind, Gozirimuu Obinna’s Morning, Morning, Kemi Owadara’s Help, Offie Darlington’s I am Awele’s Daughter, Lamilekan Hamzah’s Game Over, Ademola Adebowale’s Ibale, Adewale Adekunle’s Illusion, Gbolahan Laniyan’s Awa Mejeji, Meemah Omotunde’s Echoes and Temitope Agoro’s Soga.
This list consists of 15 emerging talents pointed at the large number of emerging Nigerian talents making artistically-driven films. The list is also an indication of the resilience of these young filmmakers who, without institutional support, funding and mentorship, continue to make films that blossom their artistic roots.
The open mic screening will, as expected, feature film screening, stimulating and engaging post-screening discussions and networking sessions. The event is an opportunity for Nigerian filmmakers, cinephiles, and other creatives from Ibadan and beyond a unique opportunity to connect, network, and share their filmmaking journeys.
