Flipside Studios has released the highly anticipated trailer for its ambitious sci-fi action film Ratnik and we can’t be more excited! There is mention of the undead (ojuju), the locations are stunning and the CGI is arguably the most impressive out of Nollywood. “The Shots are ridiculous, the locations are out of this world… this is Hollywood in Nollywood” says Bolanle Ninalowo, who plays a crucial role in the film.

While the plot isn’t quite clear, the story seems centered on an epic battle between advanced technology and Iyami Osoronga (incantations use to evoke Iyaami). In the footage’s most epic moment, Adunni Ade’s character calls on the spirits to help her fight a robotic soldier.

It isn’t clear who is evil, the Ajes or advanced tech, and it will be interesting to see the path writer and director Dimeji Ajibola follows. Will Ratnik follow Old Nollywood’s style and paint African religion practices as evil that needs to be cleansed by Oyibo technology or the other way around?

Watch the trailer below.

Ratnik is titled after a Russian futuristic combat system, the film was shot 2 years ago but has been in post-production since. It stars Bolanle Ninalowo, Osas Ighodaro, Meg Otanwa, Karibi Fubara and Adunni Ade.

The first Nollywood sci-fi film Kajola! failed to fulfill its promise, hopefully Ratnik won’t crush under the weight of its expectation. The film will be in cinemas this November.
