Signed to Mr Eazi’s record label emPawa Africa, Joeboy has been in the spotlight for some time now, as he rightly belongs in the new generation of Afrobeats artists which includes Fireboy, Asake, Rema etc. With three music projects to his name, he looks forward to the release of his sophomore album Body & Soul on May 19.
Building to the release of this album, Joeboy dropped a new single titled Duffel Bagon April 7 to whet the sonic appetite of his fans. In this new song, the artiste explores an opportunity to date a lady he is interested in as he announces that he is financially buoyant to cater for her needs. He presents his romantic manifesto to show understanding for the lady’s materialism and says he has “Plenty money for my piggy/ Make I know when you can see me, baby”. With Joeboy opting to fill in the gap of a man with provisional capacity, he demonstrates that he is already hooked by the beauty of Sexy Jola.
Produced by E Kelly and Timmy, the song is enmeshed in soft beats, 808 bass lines, and seamless, soulful guitar strings, as it prepares us for the artist’s anticipated album. The dictionary describes a duffel bag as a bag used for holding clothes and other items when traveling, but in Joeboy’s song, it becomes a metaphor for the artist’s reservoir of wealth. No wonder he croons, “Plenty money for my duffel bag”.
The official music video is directed by Buhari Yesufu. Here, Joeboy alternates between himself and the persona of a moneyed Baba Alaye found in the company of a lady whom he often tries to impress.
