Thisday are reporting that ex President Jonathan is headed for exile in a bid to counter act being arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). It is believed that he’ll be wanted on allegations of corruption and misappropriation of funds during his time at Aso Rock. Cote d’Ivoire is his mooted destination.
This story calls into question the widely accepted version of events that indicated that upon losing the election last year, one of the conditions that was attached to Goodluck’s stepping down was that he won’t be prosecuted which would explain the silence towards him despite the arrests of key players in his administration. There are also suggestions that his possible prosecution is behind the increased wave of attacks in his native Niger Delta region.
