The King of Clay, Rafael Nadal wins Monte Carlo Masters final

Serena Williams is pregnant and this frankly, is the single most important thing to happen in the tennis world since forever. Not the last Federer vs Nadal final. Not that Murray got knocked out of the Monte Carlo Masters, or that Djokovic got knocked out as well. Not that Sharapova could get a wild card entry into the French Open even though a couple of her peers have spoken out publicly against the decision. But that, Serena Williams, one of the greatest tennis players of our generation is pregnant.

In other news, the Monte Carlo Masters final took place on Sunday, the 23rd of April . Like many of the other tournaments before the French Open, this was played on clay. So far, 2017 has seen two of male tennis ageing superstars reemerge from the shadows of 2016 – Djokovic and Murray. The Monte Carlo Masters stayed true to form however with no Federer but Nadal making it all the way to the final. This tournament was also not without its incident, as the top 3 players in male tennis were all knocked out before the semi-finals.

In the all Spanish final, Rafael Nadal came up against the in form left handed maestro Albert Ramos Viñolas. Vinolas had already dispatched world number 1,  Andy Murray and current world number 5, Cilic. Nadal had only beaten one player of note so far – David Goffin.

Though this was not the mouth watering final tennis purists hoped for, it did serve as a lovely opener to the brunt of the tennis season. Nadal was dominant as ever from the baseline (very reminiscent of the Nadal of old) while Vinolas also gave a good account of himself but it was just not his day. The Monte Carlo masters served as a lovely warm up to the French Open and one can only hope Nadal can replicate this dominance when it matters.

But lets not forget that Serena Williams is pregnant.
