Ace Nollywood producer and director Kunle Afolayan has released the poster for his latest project, a psychological thriller titled Recall. The film, starring an exceptional line of talent led by Sharon Ooja (Oloture, Glamour Girls), will premiere on November 7th at the 2024 edition of AFRIFF.
Set against the metropolitan backdrop of Lagos, Recall follows the emotional journey of Goke and Anita as their seemingly perfect love story takes an unexpected and mysterious turn. While details on cast, crew and the trailer are yet to be announced, the film will be released under the aegis of KAP Motion Pictures and Golden Effects Pictures, both production outfits credited to the New Nollywood maestro.
Kunle Afolayan’s latest stride comes on the heel of the renewal of the season 2 of Netflix series Aníkúlápó. With principal photography already concluded in September, the secures is filmed in Oyo state and Ghana and touches on Nigeria’s history and culture—including the slave trade. The series brings together returning actor-characters and new entrants such as Segun Adefila, Oyewole Abija, Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori (a.k.a. KieKie), Antar Laniyan and ex-BBN housemate Saga Adeoluwa.
The visionary filmmaker was also recently selected among other African filmmakers to participate in the African Creative TV initiative (ACTV), a groundbreaking programme spearheaded by the USC School of Cinematic Arts through the American Film Showcase (AFS) and in partnership with the US Department of State. The programme focuses on cultivating leadership and creative excellence across Africa’s TV Industry. Alongside compatriot and colleague, Bolanle Austen-Peters, Afolayan will embark on a creative expedition that is aimed at equipping African TV creators with the skills and tools needed to compete globally.
