Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode while in the company of Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, indicated his government’s readiness to take over the management of the National Stadium in Surulere.

The governor attributed the decision to the immensely dilapidated state of the 38,000 capacity stadium which used was once the center of attraction.

Dalung spoke on the displeasure over the condition of the facility, attributing it to poor management before calling on the Lagos State government to ensure that individuals of high moral standing were appointed for the management of the stadium when completed, so as to restore it as a pride of the sporting world.

The minister further challenged the government to ensure that the stadium which has been mismanaged since 2002 sees its renovation completed in six months, in time to host the the next Nigerian match against Zambia.
