Letter to my mother: Feyikemi Akin- Bankole

MAMA B

What and who is my mummy?
She’s the queen of my heart.
My pearl of inestimable value.
The white rose in the land of red roses.
A teacher of fearlessness, love and compassion.

When I smile she smiles more. When I laugh she laughs harder. And when I cry, she bawls.
All I am, I owe to her.

“Your love is like tears from the stars. Loving you is food to my soul.”
“Even when the sky should fall and the stars run out, I’ll always love you.”
“Mummy mi mummy mi mummy mi mummy mi o, I’ll be there for you. I’ll love you forever.”

Through our ups and downs, tears and laughter, you’ve provided the most amazing support a stubborn person like myself could ever dream of having. I don’t know how to express myself well with my words but I promise you the best once I’m capable. I love you more than you think. I’m not a problem child but I know what you’ve been through with me. From hospitals to schools to concerts, you’ve constantly been present. You are one of a kind. An actual “Mother Hen”. Even your 7 brothers and their wives call you Iya Gbogbo because it’s true, you’re a mother to all.

I love you more than a chubby kid loves candy.
I love you more than Winnie the Pooh loves his honey.
I love you more than I can say.

As we celebrate mothers, I’m beyond proud to celebrate you as my mother and the most incredible mummy. My very own superwoman!

Hugs and kisses,
Feyikemi.
