In the last 18 months, the biggest growth stories in the Afrobeat circle have been Mayorkun and Maleek Berry who made his transition from producer to artist and has shown he is here to stay. SInce the start of the year, Maleek has kept up the consistency relentlessly moving between releases of new songs and videos from his debut EP, Last Daze of Summer. His latest contribution is the video for what should be the anthem for all those attempting to break out the friendzone, Let Me Know.
The video strays from the norm for music videos as we experience the story from Maleek’s point of view. Completely bringing the lyrics of the song to video, we enjoy a treat which sees the artist-producer interact with and go on trips with a friend he’s trying to make more than that. Adding to the unconventional nature of the video, we learn that everything from Let Me Know was in the past and move into a video for Lost in the World.
The creative risk to in part merge videos is a first and JM Films and Maleek Berry must be appreciated for a clear desire to be more explorative with the types of videos they’ve delivered over the past couple of months.
