Matt B Avows Romantic Inclination On Music Video “JOLENE”

Posted on

GRAMMY-nominated global artist Matt B  has released the music video for JOLENE off his latest Afrobeats project, ALKEBULAN. On the engaging down-tempo track, Matt B pours out strong emotions for someone who is rather trying to avoid him.

In the video, Matt B is adorned in jewels as he prays to Oshun, the Yoruba goddess of love, requesting to be gifted the love he really craves. Backed by rich, cultural influences, the visuals add  up to the soothing and intriguing narrative of the song.

Matt B had his debut project EDEN in 2021, and released his sophomore ALKEBULAN this year. Following its release, ALKEBULAN appeared on six Billboard charts, including #27 on Top New Artist Albums, #33 on Top Albums, #82 on Top Currently Album Sales and #120 on Digital Albums. An album in the works for over three years, ALKEBULAN attends to Matt B’s African ancestry, with him describing his journey to reunite with his African roots while trying to strike a balance between personal life and family dynamics. The album is crafted as a recognition of his  homecoming, as he draws influences from the Afrobeats soundscape that is evident in his previous musical engagements. The album contains singles such as the celebratory SHAYO, percussion-enhanced GUNJALE, and effervescent FREEDOM. Also part of this album is the artist’s GRAMMY-nominated hit GIMME LOVE featuring Eddy Kenzo, marked its first appearance in the Top 50  on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs Charts.

Popular for his romantically inclined R&B style, Matt B continues to position himself as a bonafide talent and a force to reckon with, creating a global fanbase with his chart-topping releases. Earlier this year, Matt and his wife who doubles as  his manager and producer, Angela Benson started bringing ALKEBULAN to life on the GRAMMYs red carpet in honour of their nomination for Gimme Love as they reflected the energy and presence of their ancestors who used to reign as kings and queens of Africa with custom royal attire, earning praises from the Washington Post, iHeart, Tonight, Vogue, Entertainment, and others.

Out on Tuesday 3rd October 2023, JOLENE video is now available for a great audiovisual experience.
