Mohbad’s “Ask About Me” Is A Toast To His Resilience

For the umpteenth time, Mohbad proves his mettle as a dyed-in-the-wool, street-conscious artist on new song, Ask About Me. Released April 14, 2023, the Amapiano-powered hit, mostly delivered in Yoruba, focuses on his resilience in the face of setbacks and enmity.

The ex-Marlian artist terminated his contract with Naira Marley’s Marlian Music Record label in 2022 and appears to have been undergoing a phase of career resuscitation following  the fallout with his former boss. With this new release, Mohbad reassures his fans that his music career is still on track, as he sings “I’m still getting my mulla, dollar pelu naira”. 

Born Aloba Promise Ilerioluwa Oladimeji, Mohbad’s style encompasses Afropop, Fuji and hip-hop, while his lyricism is mostly peppered with street argot and raunchy lines. He is known for his intriguing fashion sense, especially his eye-catching hairstyles, and his songs often embody his signature brazen vocals. Not only is Ask About Me Mohbad’s first release of 2023, but it is also his welcome-back package on the music scene since the November 2022 release of Weekend.
