After his relatively quiet 2017 spent touring and recording his next release, Mr Eazi takes things a notch higher with the release of two singles from his upcoming EP, Life is Eazi, Vol. 2 – Lagos To London. Focusing on the theme of geographical domination that has proved key to his break out and success, there’s clearly a method being deployed here. Said method being a well targeted release strategy.
London Town is a Grimy number which features a verse from London favorite, Giggs serving as an obvious play for the British capital city that serves as his current primary base. Production duo Da Beatfreakz provide a hard beat, Giggs takes no prisoners with his verse and Mr Eazi switches his style from laidback melodies to hard flows with back to back bars. These switches perfectly echo the cultural shifts from Lagos to London.
Overload is a less creative song of the slower Afrobeats variation focusing on one of the great Afrobeats subject matters- The Booty. #SaveBootyRaps. It features current wave influencers, Slimcase and Mr Real and was produced by E Kelly and essentially sees them have worked together to layer their bars, creating an interesting tag team.
These singles, his first since signing a label licensing deal recently with Universal Music Group Africa, are influenced by the close trans-Atlantic relationship between Lagos and London with London Town capturing the essence of London from a Nigerian’s perspective whilst Overload captures the essence of Nigerians in London and the journey to get there.
