Mukhy Heads To The Streets in the ‘My Race’ Video

In the Nigerian music industry, the streets are a creditable institution. In the nineties, Ajegunle held Nigerian popular culture in a headlock defining the trends of what was hot and what wasn’t. Naturally, this wave has evolved with places like Festac and Agege having their moments of dominance. In the last couple of years, this influence has shown through with shoki, shaku shaku to zanku waves at various turns. It is upon this foundation, while paying a subtle nod to these movements, that fresh artist Muhky taps in his latest video offering, My Race.

Teaming up with label mate, Glitch, he employs pidgin English, the language synonymous with the streets to relay his message of ambition and a quietly confident assurance that his big dreams will come to fruition. The video is shot in a deprived settlement along the shores of the Lagos’ Atlantic in Lagos and pays homage to some memorable street dance steps like the legwork and galala emphasizing the connection needed to the people who matter most.
