Debates about whether or not the Nigerian World Cup merchandise should have been priced as high as it did have dominated social media over the past weeks. While there are some ethical concerns about whether or not the authentic merch should be selling at a price above what most Nigerians can afford, it’s interesting to see the Nigerian jersey become one of the most demanded pieces of clothing in the world at the moment.
Selling out in under an hour when it went on sale on Friday, the jersey now retails at about $270 on sites like Grailed and eBay and while Nigeria may have lost its two friendlies against England and Czech Republic and many continue to be unsure of whether we shall make it out of the Group of Death, we’ve already won the most important battle, the Jersey World Cup according to Highsnobiety’s rankings of all the World Cup kits.
Coming in 1st place, we are followed by Germany, Japan, Peru and France. At the bottom of the totem pole comes Switzerland.
